Common QuestionsCommon Questions

  • How long should I allow for the appointment? 1 to 1.5 hours.
  • How should I prepare for my appointment? We need to develop a knowledge of your physical history — accidents, illnesses, trauma, surgery, over use, etc. You should begin by reviewing the forms above which we will discuss in detail during your first appointment.
  • What should I wear to my MAT appointment? You'll want to dress in comfortable athletic apparel (lightweight sweat pants or gym shorts and a lightweight shirt) for your MAT appointment.
  • Is MAT like massage? No. MAT uses muscle tightness as an indicator for systemic muscle issues and then treats the cause of the muscle tightness — not simply forcing the muscle to relax.
  • Does it hurt? When muscles are not working properly they are often inflamed and not getting proper blood supply and can hurt when palpated. As they begin to work better your muscles will hurt less and less.
  • How many sessions will I need? There's no common number of sessions required, as each person's condition is unique. Typically we schedule the first three or four appointments in quick succession to build a base of results.
  • Can I benefit from MAT in conjunction with other treatments? MAT works well on its own and is a great adjunct to other modalities of treatment.
  • Is there anything that I can do to aid the success of my MAT experience? Yes! As your body begins to feel better we will equip you with tools for self guided maintenance of the progress we've made.
  • Can I use my insurance to pay for MAT treatment? MAT may be covered by some insurance plans. I do not accept insurance as payment, but I can provide you with a descriptive receipt for your use in submitting an insurance claim.

I blew out the L5 disc in 1998. By 2003 my back was so tight that I had to sit on the floor and couldn't sit on a chair for more than 15 minutes at a time. I've been doing MAT since June 2003 and the results have been amazing! I'm able to play golf at a high level with no pain and no limitations, whether its 36 holes in a day or playing 6 straight days. If I experience any problems, MAT is able to resolve those problems. I'm a firm believer in MAT and would recommend it to anyone, because MAT really works!
